Every work of a writer is influenced by the writer’s experience in life. Writer’s biography is important to know how deep the writer will go in his/her work. Biographical criticism is such practice that views any writer’s work through his eyes. It makes it simpler to examine and expand the literary work. The story “A Clean Well Lighted Place” by Earnest Hemingway can be explained and understood clearly with the act of biographical criticism. The story’s theme can be easily known if we have an idea of the writer’s biography and point of view. Earnest Hemingway had a very wealthy life. his life was successful and did not worry bout money one bit. He also lived his life as a celebrity and often posing as a marlin fisherman, or a lion hunter. He also had four wives which tells you that he never lacked love. his life was perfect except his mental distress. Actually, he just enjoyed being a happy person but was mentally distressed in. Even if he had earned his name and fame, he was unable to gather the mental satisfaction in life which brought him to suicide. He shot himself.

i choose "the things they carried"in this story , he describes a group of soldiers through Vietnam war. he describes items that each of the soliders carried with eachother during the war .Each soldier carried things that represent their personality and belief and things they needed to provide them with safety. they carried medals according to there ranks. as a first lieutenant platoon leader carries a compass, maps, code books, light weight items. as a big man there fore they carried machine guns, because they werre able to handle the weight. they also carried pressure of war, dignity, memories of there families.
the most interesting charcter would have to be kiowa. Kiowa is a Baptist and a very religious person out of all the characters in the story. He carried a couple of material with him, such as a New Testament bible that was given to him by his father, and he also carried his grandfather old featherd hatchet. Emotionally and mentally he carried his grandmother’s distrust towards the white men. Kiowa is a straight up and honest solider, and being such a person made his comment towards Lavender’s death seem a bit cruel.
